kate lain is a los angeles–area artist working in digital video, super 8 film, photography, paper, fabric, and other media.

her preoccupations include family, memory, gender, landscape, texture, color, and place.  she wanders at the intersections of human and nature, science and art, feminine and masculine, stillness and motion.  she is drawn to the sites where structures and materials break down.

kate’s video and film work verges on documentary and spans a wide range—from essay film to stopmotion collage to impressionist portrait.  her works have screened at festivals and venues internationally including the black maria film + video festival, edinburgh international film festival, videoex experimental film & video festival, los angeles filmforum, and the davis feminist film festival.

kate has an mfa in science & natural history filmmaking from montana state university in bozeman.
